HIST-1700: American Civilization
This course covered American History from the Pre-Columbian period to the present. It provides an examination of the major social, political, economic events, issues, and themes in the period. For our signature assignment we were to chose one person that was the most intriguing or inspiring that we covered at any time during our coursework. Once we picked our individual we were to write an essay about them and why we chose them. This person could have been anyone from any walk of life. I chose Booker T. Washington because of all the people I studied in the class he was one of the most inspiring to me. Here is my essay:

Reflection
This course has brought me so much insight to how our country was shaped and how it was made into what it is today. I never really knew a whole lot about history let alone the history of America. I am so glad that I was able to learn so much of our country's history in this class and enjoy talking with people about the things I learned as well. There were so many people that I learned about during this course which were intriguing and inspiring to me, it was so hard for me to pick just one. Numerous individuals were responsible for shaping our country and making it what it is today.
Ultimately the person who made the most impact on me was Booker T. Washington. Although Booker T. Washington went the unconventional way to achieve equal rights I believe that he took the more gentleman like way. I admire him for still achieving things that he wanted to do although he was born a slave, especially for gaining an education which was something he wanted to do as a young boy. He was truly a strong man and I applaud him for the things that he accompished in his life and for inspiring others the way that he did.
