Diversity--EDU 1400: Study of Disabilities
I decided to take EDU 1400: Study of Disabilities for my diversity credit but also because I felt that it would help me in my future career as an elementary school teacher. During this course we had discussions, individual projects, a group literary project, and a service learning assignment. I chose to share with you my reflection on my service learning project from my hours in which I volunteered at UAID (Utah Association for Intellectual Disabilities).
Here is the link for my service learning reflection, I hope you enjoy!
Reflection:
This course really opened my eyes about disabilities. At first I thought I was going to learn about specific disabilities but instead I learned about the struggles that people with disabilities (PWDs) face. I am so glad that I took this course because I never quite knew just how much people with disabilities are discriminated against.
Disabilities can range from an intellectual/mental disability to a physical disability. Many people do not realize that there are many different conditions which are considered disabilities. This course not only helped me grow as an individual but also as a future educator.
